‘Mexico Honey’ Lyrics: Kacey Musgraves Releases Music Video: Learn the Song’s Meaning

Kacey Musgraves is releasing a new video from her latest studio album, Middle of Nowhere.

The 37-year-old singer-songwriter revealed the visual for “Mexico Honey” on Wednesday (July 22), filmed on location in Mexico and directed by Alexa Stone and Stephen Kinigopoulos, together known as Running Bear.

What Is “Mexico Honey” about?

The video is described in an official release as “just as much a tribute to the captivatingly beautiful country of Mexico as it is the passion and experiences that have inspired her there.”

“You’re going down smooth like Mexico, honey / Take my heart, take all my money / I want you so bad, it ain’t even funny / I mean for real, what the hell / You got me shaking my a– in my hot-pink shorts / You’re laying down laughing on the bathroom floor / Oh, I dropped it down, you said you’ll stay / We’re gonna ride this wave ’til it breaks, yeah,” Kacey sings on the summer anthem.

What Has Kacey Musgraves Said About Mexico’s Influence on Her New Album?

“The truth is Texas would not be Texas without Mexico in many ways. Though I’ve always been drawn to it, I’ve really been fortunate to get to really experience that first hand myself down there seeing a lot of the vaquero and rodeo culture and where it comes from. And seeing how far back it goes and seeing the direct influence that it has had as it’s worked its way into our Texas Western culture — I just have a lot of respect for it,” Kacey told NPR on the influence of Mexican culture in her new record.

She also confirmed she had “beef” with another country singer.
