‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Ending Explained (Spoilers)

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been in theaters for a couple of days now!

The new MCU film sees the return of Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for his fourth solo outing as the webbed superhero.

Here’s the synopsis: It’s a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see.
The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

With the movie out, you may be wondering about the ending and what it means for the characters. We’ve got all the details and the theory about how the movie tackles people not remembering Peter Parker, or that he’s Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day ending explained

If you recall, at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, to keep his loved ones safe, Peter made the difficult decision for Doctor Strange to cast a spell and wipe everyone’s memory of him, including the reveal in Far From Home that he was Spider-Man.

In Brand New Day, the movie fast-forwards four years, and everyone still doesn’t know who Peter Parker is. One scene sees Spider-Man returning to MJ in Frank’s bunker, and she reveals she found Peter’s letter to her. She tells him that she doesn’t remember him at all, or anything about their relationship.

During the movie, Jean Grey inhabits MJ and says she’s remembering Peter and their relationship, manipulating Spider-Man. Then there’s the major part where Jean’s telepathy powers cause the city to come to a halt for a while as she struggles with her feelings and memories towards Bill Metzger, nearly killing him.

However, after Jean’s power falls from harboring the city around her, we see the start of MJ remembering Peter.

We first see her shedding a tear when Jean’s power is over her and Ned in their apartment, but after it’s lifted, we then see her on the rooftop holding the broken black dahlia necklace Peter gave her in the last movie.

Later, we see Peter going to the bodega to buy flowers once again, and he sees Ned sitting at a table, and Peter approaches him.

He introduces himself and goes to shake Ned’s hand, but then continues to do their secret handshake, which sparks Ned to remember it, and seemingly remember Peter!

What this means for the future of the Spider-Man characters and the MCU

While MJ and Ned start remembering Peter at the end of the movie, there’s no explanation on how their memories are coming back.

It appears that Jean inhabiting them is unlocking their memories of Peter, thus breaking Doctor Strange’s spell. The post-end credits scene revealed that Spider-Man will return, so we’ll have to wait and see to learn more!

The movie ended before we could learn more, but Jean Grey appearing in the film sets up the new X-Men in the MCU.

Several of the past 20th Century Fox X-Men stars are returning in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, but additional X-Men casting has yet to be revealed, other than Samara Weaving being cast as Emma Frost, another telepathic Mutant.

It is also rumored that Beef season two co-stars Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny are close to securing deals to join as Beast and Rogue, according to The InSneider. He also shares that Drew Starkey is favored to play Cyclops, and Bill Skarsgard and Tom Pelphrey are finalists for the role of Professor X.
