Anok Yai has been one of fashion’s most beautiful success stories to watch. From viral sensation to catwalk queen, she is that girl.
A single photo at Howard Homecoming introduced the world to her face. Less than a year later, Prada made her the first Black woman to open one of its shows since Naomi Campbell. Since then, we have watched Anok build the kind of career that defines the word supermodel.
Seeing her slay in an industry that has not always welcomed our beauty makes her rise even more inspiring.
Anok Yai Is That Girl: The Making Of An Icon
Her walk is mean. Her face card never declines. Her skin photographs like chocolate porcelain, and her hair and makeup teams know how to keep her looking flawless. Put Anok in front of a camera or send her down a catwalk, and she knows exactly what to do.
This September, Anok worked Fashion Month from New York to Milan and Paris. In New York, she walked Michael Kors Collection, Calvin Klein Collection and Khaite before heading overseas. At Vogue World Milano, she wore two Valentino looks, including an iridescent organza Haute Couture creation by Alessandro Michele.
She’s also a Gucci girlie.
For Demna’s Spring 2027 collection, Anok hit the catwalk in black with an oversized fur coat bringing major drama. Her hair was slicked away from her face, while smoky eyes, glossy dark lips and oversized jeweled earrings played beautifully against her deep skin. And sis worked that coat. Every step had the attitude that makes Anok’s walk so good.
A day later, she closed Ferragamo’s Spring 2027 show for Maximilian Davis, ending the collection in a reflective high-neck dress that flashed under the lights as she walked. This week the 28-year-old is in Paris for the ELIE SAAB x H&M celebration in an oversized chocolate leather jacket, micro shorts, heels and a pixie cut.
Anok Yai: The Accolades Match The Runway Receipts
Anok continues to take up space in the industry, and her accolades match her runway receipts. We love to see her get her flowers. The British Fashion Council named her its 2025 Model of the Year after campaigns with Versace, Alaïa and Saint Laurent.
TIME also named her one of its 100 Most Influential People of 2026, with Chanel Iman writing her tribute. Her Vanity Fair cover dug deeper into her American story as the daughter of South Sudanese refugees who became one of fashion’s biggest names.
And we have to talk about the Met Gala 2026.
Anok and Balenciaga’s Pierpaolo Piccioli created a dramatic Black Madonna look for fashion’s biggest night. The sculpted black gown, hood, gloves and diamonds gave us an Anok beauty moment worthy of the Met steps.
Anok is in her supermodel era. She serves face, fashion and fierce fabulosity while taking up space and changing conversations around dark-skinned Black beauty at the highest levels of culture and the industry. It is the making of an icon before our very eyes.
