What happened with The Punisher and Spider-Man in Staten Island?

If you saw the movie, you’ll know that from the very first moment Spider-Man and Frank Castle meet, they continually reference something that happened in the NYC borough of Staten Island.

As you watch the movie, the running gag gets repeated over and over again. It’s revealed that Spider-Man believes he saved Frank’s life from a drug dealer during an off-screen incident, but Frank disputes this.

Their “frenemies” vibe continues throughout much of the movie, but Frank ultimately shows his respect for Spider-Man when he helps Peter Parker hide MJ from Jean Gray.

Further, Frank then rushes to help as the climax of the movie unfolds. In the end, Frank fires his weapon at Jean to eliminate her as a threat, but Spider-Man intercepts the bullet to save her life. Thankfully, Spider-Man lives, thanks to Jean’s powers keeping him breathing until Frank rushes to his aid and helps him get care.
