Witney Carson Defends ‘DWTS’ Partner Guillermo Rodriguez After Premiere, Calls Judges’ Low Scores ‘Lame’

Witney Carson is speaking out about her Dancing with the Stars partner Guillermo Rodriguez‘s low scores on premiere night.

The 32-year-old pro dancer and the 55-year-old Jimmy Kimmel Live sidekick performed their first routine on Tuesday night (September 15), which was a cha-cha to “Mr. Big Stuff” by Jean Knight.

Guillermo and Witney earned the lowest score of the night, a 10 out of 30, one of the lowest scores of all time.

Following the live premiere, the dancing pair reacted to the judges’ low scores, with Witney calling them “lame.”

“I think, [for] this cha-cha, we worked on so much,” Witney told Us Weekly. “We really worked on the timing and not rushing it. I think that you know there were bits where we were a little bit off, but he got right back on it and he listened to what I said.”

“He followed my lead and he performed and he had fun, so honestly, that’s all I can ask for. I’m so proud,” she added. “The judge’s scores were lame.”

Guillermo also said he was not too thrilled about the scores.

“I was not happy with the score because I think I did good and everything,” he told Us Weekly.

“I’m not too happy with the score, but listen, I listened to Witney. I felt like I’m at home,” Guillermo added. “I gotta listen to my wife, I gotta listen to my partner. She said, ‘Look at me. Smile. Don’t rush it. Have fun. Enjoy.’”

“I say Dancing With the Stars is hard, but I passed the first week, so I don’t have nothing else to lose, nothing to prove,” he continued. “I’m here to stay. I’m here to work hard and do my best.”

As Guillermo mentioned, despite having the lowest overall score of the night, he and Witney were safe from elimination and will get to dance again!
