Harry Shum Jr. is bringing his years of dance experience to the ballroom!
The 44-year-old Glee and Grey’s Anatomy actor is competing on season 35 of Dancing with the Stars, which premieres TONIGHT (Tuesday, September 15) on ABC and Disney+. He has been paired with two-time Mirrorball champion Jenna Johnson.
While watching Harry perform, viewers might be wondering whether he is currently dating anyone. He is very much off the market: Harry has been with actress and dancer Shelby Rabara since 2007, and the couple has now been married for more than a decade.
Who is Harry Shum Jr.’s wife, Shelby Rabara?
Shelby, 42, is an actress, dancer and voice performer. She has appeared in projects including Glee, 17 Again and 2 Broke Girls, but many fans will recognize her as the voice of Peridot in the Steven Universe franchise. More recently, she voiced Snappy in Toy Story 5.
Before pursuing acting, Shelby attended UCLA and performed as a member of the Laker Girls, the Los Angeles Lakers’ dance team, according to People.
She and Harry have also worked together creatively. The couple co-wrote the children’s book Martee Dares to Dance, which encourages children to build confidence and express themselves through movement.
How did Harry and Shelby meet?
Dance played an important role in bringing the couple together.
Harry and Shelby crossed paths at auditions while they were both establishing themselves as professional dancers. They even appeared in the same commercial before they began dating.
During a joint interview with Shondaland, Harry recalled seeing Shelby’s headshot displayed beside his by a photographer they both worked with. He remembered thinking she was “really pretty” before recognizing her when they later met.
Their first official date was a trip to see the 2006 movie Dreamgirls. During a 2022 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Harry revealed that they both cried during the movie and spent time afterward opening up to one another.
The pair began dating in 2007 and eventually married in Costa Rica in November 2015. They celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in November 2025.

Harry and Shelby share one daughter, Xia, whom they welcomed in March 2019.
The couple has said that their daughter’s love of movement helped inspire Martee Dares to Dance. They wanted the story to show children that dance can be a joyful form of self-expression, regardless of whether they intend to pursue it professionally.
In a June 2026 interview, Harry also opened up about what has sustained his relationship with Shelby for so many years.
“I think it’s just loving each other in different stages,” he told People, explaining that their approach to communication and romance has evolved as their lives have changed.
