Travis Kelce Named as Victim in $35 Million Ponzi Scheme

Travis Kelce has reportedly been named as a victim in a massive multimillion-dollar Ponzi scheme.

The 36-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end was identified as one of the victims during a court hearing in Missouri on Tuesday (September 15), according to First Alert 4.

Siddharth Jawahar, 38, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for running the scheme through his Texas-based investment company Swiftarc Capital LLC.

Prosecutors reportedly named the NFL star as one of the victims during Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, but did not reveal any details about his potential financial losses.

A 2021 Forbes article previously identified Travis as an investor in a fund created by Swiftarc, which Jawahar co-founded.

Travis has not publicly commented on the case.

What Happened in the Ponzi Scheme?

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, Jawahar began investing client funds in Philip Morris Pakistan in 2015.

Eventually, 99% of his clients’ funds were consolidated into that single investment. When its value declined, prosecutors said Jawahar did not tell investors and instead falsely claimed they were making profits.

From July 2016 through December 2023, Jawahar took in more than $35 million from Swiftarc investors but invested only about $10 million, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said he used money from new investors to pay older investors while also funding an extravagant lifestyle that included private jets, luxury hotels, an apartment in Austin and New York City, private club memberships, shopping sprees and expensive restaurant outings.

Jawahar pleaded guilty in January to three counts of wire fraud.

In addition to his 11-year prison sentence, he was ordered to pay $31.35 million in restitution to his victims.

The sentencing judge cited the “enormous” losses and Jawahar‘s failure to begin repaying victims when handing down the sentence.
