Tony Romo Exits CBS Sports Following OWI Arrest

Tony Romo‘s time at CBS Sports has come to an end.

Over the summer, the 46-year-oldretired NFL quarterback was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated (OWI) in Milwaukee, Wis. Shortly after his arrest, CBS Sports announced that Tony will be away from his role as an analyst “until further notice.”

On Friday (October 2), CBS Sports officially confirmed that they have parted way with Tony.

“CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways,” the company shared in a statement, via ESPN. “We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward.”

JJ Watt has been filling in for Tony so far this NFL season will continue to do so alongside regulars Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson.

Tony said in a statement will take time off before considering his future.

“I’m proud of what I accomplished at CBS Sports over the last nine years,” he shared. “I approached my role as a game analyst the way I’ve approached everything in my life — with a desire to win and be the best that I can be.”

Tony continued, “I’m going to use this time to take a break, something I’ve never done before, and focus on my health and my family before moving on to my next opportunity. I am grateful for my time with CBS Sports and for the continued support of my family and friends, as well as the NFL community and fans.”

After playing with the Dallas Cowboys for 13 seasons, Tony retired in 2016. He then joined CBS as an analyst in April 2017.

Last month, Tony broke his silence after his arrest, revealing that he entered a plea of no contest to the OWI charge. He also revealed he has an “over-reliance” on alcohol after fighting a “dependence on pain medication.” Read more.
