‘Practical Magic 2’: Alexandra Artrip Responds to Backlash Over Maisie Williams Replacing Her as Antonia Owens

Alexandra Artrip is speaking out about her role being recast in Practical Magic 2, and the negativity surrounding it.

The 36-year-old former child actress played Antonia Owens, one of the daughters of Sandra Bullock‘s Sally Owens, alongside Evan Rachel Wood as her sister, Kylie.

However, in the upcoming sequel, Maisie Williams is taking on the role of Antonia, with Joey King as Kylie.

Alexandra recently took to her Instagram, which is dedicated to all things Practical Magic, to respond to negativity surrounding the recasting and how she feels about not being a part of the sequel.

Alexandra Artrip reacts to negativity about Practical Magic 2 recasting

“I love hearing your stories and connections to the film, but I get comments like this a lot, and I see them going on a lot of the content around the sequel,” she said in a video. “I think the sentiment is right; people are trying to show support for Evan and myself and the original film and everything it’s meant to so many people, but I just don’t want my stuff to be a space for negativity. Maisie and Joey are lovely actresses, and I’m sure the production team did what they thought was best for the film to be successful.”

The comment she was referring to said that they didn’t want to watch the sequel due to the recasting of the original actresses.

“I just think we should support the film, give it a shot, go in with an open mind. Nothing can take away from what the original film was, and I’m excited that we’re able to build on that world with a new novel and new content in 2026, and that it’s given me a space to revisit all those beloved memories so many years later,” Alexandra added.

The former child actress only has three credits to her name, including her last project, Practical Magic, as well as appearances on Touched by an Angel and Walker, Texas Ranger.

Alexandra‘s latest comment comes after her co-star, Evan Rachel Wood, previously revealed she was not asked to return and explained why it didn’t work to bring her back. Evan then went on to praise Joey for reaching out to her.
