Kelly Ripa Reveals Why She Needed Painful Gum Graft Surgery, Blames a 'Good-Bad Habit' | Just Jared - Celebrity News and Gossip

Kelly Ripa is explaining what caused the gum recession that led to her needing a gum graft surgery.
The 55-year-old Live with Kelly and Mark co-host spoke about it on a new episode of her Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast with guest Michelle Buteau from Survival of the Thickest. The episode was recorded before Kelly‘s surgery.
During the Wednesday (August 12) episode, she revealed that the surgery was going to be painful and she would not be “allowed to talk for ten days” after the periodontal procedure used to treat thinning gums. Not being allowed to speak for that long is why she’s had to take time off from the talk show.
According to Kelly, the reason for the surgery is that she is “an over-brusher.”
“I brush my teeth too much. It’s a good-bad habit,” Kelly shared. “But I’ve caused gum recession down here specifically, and so they have gotta re-gum my gums.”
Mark Consuelos provided an update during a recent episode.
“She’s doing it without moving her bottom lip,” he said. “And she got a lot of love, messages, people were checking in, cause we announced it on the show that she had surgery.”
