Jeremy Strong is a method actor and he’s not going to apologize for it.

The 47-year-old Succession star was a guest on The New Yorker Radio Hour podcast recently with David Remnick and when discussing some of the criticism he has received from past co-stars about his method acting, said he doesn’t feel he “needs to apologize” for it.

David asked him about how he researches his characters and pointed out a scene in The Apprentice where he added a scene that wasn’t in the script, wondering if the intimate knowledge of his characters he brings to his performances is “appreciated” by the people around him.

“I think I can’t really speak to that,” he said. “Of course, some people seem to have been… it is never my intention to interfere with anyone else’s experience or anyone else’s way of working. First, do no harm, right? But commit to f***ing what you’re doing, and utterly.”

When asked if he has any frustration toward others who aren’t method acting, Jeremy said, “No, just meaning that I’m just there to commit utterly to serving the material.”

Notably, Jeremy‘s Succession co-star Brian Cox has publicly criticized him more than once.

Back in April, he gave a brutally honest interview and criticized multiple actors, including Jeremy again.

“I don’t want to go on about Jeremy, because I’ve got into a lot of problems and he’s begged me to stop talking about him. He’s a good actor, Jeremy. He’s a wonderful actor. It’s just all the bollocks that goes with it. You watch children — they don’t say, ‘What’s my motivation?’ They just do it!” Brian said.

Jeremy‘s next big project is in Aaron Sorkin‘s movie The Social Reckoning where he’ll play Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. See the photos of him at the red carpet world premiere!
