Jennifer Lawrence to Star in Zach Cregger's Next Movie 'The Flood': What We Know So Far | Just Jared

Jennifer Lawrence is teaming up with one of the most exciting directors out there right now.

The Oscar-winning actress is set to star in horror master Zach Cregger‘s upcoming movie The Flood.

The movie is being billed as an “orignal sci-fi thriller” written by Cregger, based on his own idea, and he will be directing the film as well.

The Flood is being made by the studio behind Weapons

Warner Bros., the studio behind Zach‘s hit movie Weapons, will be producing the upcoming film and he thanked the studio’s heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy in a statement.

“Mike, Pam and the whole Warner Bros./New Line team were an absolute dream to collaborate with on Weapons, and I couldn’t be happier to dive in with them again. Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role,” Zach said.

The movie will go into production in early 2027 in Europe.

What is The Flood about?

TheWrap confirms that “plot details are being kept secret for this film,” so it will probably be a while until we know anything.

Warner Bros chiefs De Luca and Abdy said, “Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most gifted and compelling actors working today, and we are thrilled to have her at the center of Zach’s bold and wholly original vision for The Flood. Following our extraordinary experience together on Weapons, we could not be more excited to reunite with Zach and the team at Vertigo, as well as Amblin to bring this ambitious film to audiences around the world.”

The movie will be released on August 11, 2028.

Zach Cregger’s film history revealed

Zach made his filmmaking debut back in 2009 with the comedy movie Miss March, made with his comedy trouble The Whitest Kids U’ Know.

In 2022, Zach made his feature film solo directing debut with the horror film Barbarian. His movie Weapons was released in 2025 and then he directed this year’s Resident Evil.

Zach is one of the most well-reviewed directors of today. Barbarian has a 92% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Weapons has a 93%, and Resident Evil has a 96%. He also produced Companion, which has a 93%.

Zach recently opened up about casting his real-life wife in an upcoming movie.
