Hayden Panettiere‘s estranged mom, Lesley Vogel, is speaking out for the second time about the death of her daughter.
Lesley has faced backlash for her initial statement on Hayden‘s shocking passing at the age of 36. She was even called out by a well-regarded news anchor for her choice of words.
Hayden died on Sunday at the young age of 36 after going into cardiac arrest in an apartment in South Carolina, where she was visiting with her on-again off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson.
What did Lesley Vogel say in her first statement?
Lesley spoke to NBC News in a phone interview on Tuesday, calling out Brian Hickerson for his role in Hayden‘s life, leading up to her death.
This person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death, and that was Brian Hickerson.
I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments, and I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry — it is a struggle and it’s a very challenging industry and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.
There is a lot of history in the past that Brian has enabled Hayden many times, and this is why her father and I had been concerned for a long time about him.
Lesley said that she no-contact with Hayden “was a choice I made for very specific reasons and, you know, certainly not for lack of care, concern, love.”
“I think it becomes very difficult to be true to yourself, and I think Hayden sadly lost her way, and I wish it were different. I wish she had stayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes,” Lesley said. I just feel that she’s with her brother and they’re at peace.”
Lesley Vogel speaks out for a second time, revealing new details on investigation
In new comments to NBC News on Wednesday (August 19), Lesley revealed that a “narcotics investigator has joined the South Carolina police investigation into the death.”
Lesley didn’t have additional details to share about the investigation, but said that police told her “they brought in a narcotics investigator into the case.”
Lesley told NBC, “It leads me to believe they have questions, which of course they all do.”
Lesley believes the timing of the 911 call was suspicious because it’s “not the typical hour of the day that you are partying, generally speaking.” The call was placed at 1:51pm on Sunday afternoon.
TMZ also has new details on the investigation
TMZ has confirmed that the DEA is joining the investigation.
The Drug Enforcement Administration is now part of the investigation into Hayden’s death, joining the Greenville PD in South Carolina.
The over-the-counter overdose treatment Narcan was found in the apartment where Hayden died, but there has been no confirmation whether it was used on her or not.
The police were called to Brian Hickerson‘s family home days after the death.
