Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have been separated since 2017, but they have no plans on getting divorced and still remain active parts of each other’s lives!
The 81-year-old actor opened up about his relationship with Rhea, 78, in a new cover story with AARP The Magazine for the August/September 2026 issue.
In the mag, Danny opened up about meeting Rhea when he was appearing in an off-Broadway play.
“We hit it off,” Danny said. “We liked off-Broadway stuff. We went to movies all the time. We made little movies together — short films. We had a lot in common, and we fell in love. A nice Jewish girl from Brooklyn and an Italian from New Jersey: I cooked, and she ate.”
The couple moved in together shortly after meeting in 1971. They got married in January 1982 and share three children together: Lucy, Grace, and Jacob.
Danny and Rhea originally separated in 2012 after being together for over 40 years, but they reconciled less than a year later. They split again in March 2017.
The magazine feature noted that despite their breakup in 2017, Rhea and Danny talk daily and get together for weekly meals.
“We’re always over at her house,” he said. “We see the grandchildren together, that kind of stuff. So that’s a good relationship.”
On the morning of the interview with AARP, Danny said that he got up at 6am for a “Zoom with my 1-year-old grandson eating oatmeal.” So sweet!
