Could sparks be flying between A Different World stars Maleah Joi Moon and Cornell Young IV when the cameras aren’t rolling? Fans certainly think so after the two Hillman hotties were spotted sharing some (super) playful, flirty moments off-screen.
In the Internet-obsession-causing Netflix series, Moon, who plays Deborah Wayne—the youngest daughter of Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison)—has an on-again, off-again romance with Shaquille Johnson, played by Young, on the hit series. But lately, fans have started wondering if their onscreen chemistry might be spilling into real life. The buzz picked up after Moon and Young were spotted together at a watch party for the premiere of A Different World in Young’s hometown of St. Louis, according to TheyBF_Daily. In footage from the celebration, Moon could be seen trailing behind Young and clapping for the actor alongside his family.
None of their A Different World co-stars were seemingly present.
And then came the birthday surprise.
Young, 26, reportedly surprised Moon, 24, with a birthday cake as she had recently celebrated her big day on Sept. 23. In a video from the celebration, Young gets down on one knee while holding the cake as Moon smiles, appears shocked, and sheds a few happy tears.
She also shares a warm hug with Young’s mom, giving fans plenty to talk about.
But the internet wasn’t finished investigating.
Another video obtained by Film Updates showed Young holding Moon, with both stars flashing huge smiles.
Naturally, fans had questions—and when an A Different World fan asked Young this week if he was single, the actor didn’t exactly give a straightforward answer.
“I love my work,” he replied before letting out a big laugh. Notably, Maleah was standing nearby during the funny encounter.
So, are they or aren’t they?
For now, there’s no confirmation from either star that their relationship extends beyond their friendship and professional partnership.

The pair also haven’t shared any obvious evidence of a romance on their Instagram pages. That, however, hasn’t stopped fans from having fun with the possibility.
“I ain’t even mad at that🔥🔥🔥 They are both gorgeous 🥰🥰,” wrote one person in the comments section of TheyBF_Daily post.
Another penned:
“They both are just so sexy they seem like the type to have chemistry…. When you got it ya just got it. But the hug with the mama ion know.”
A third added:
“I’m here for it. I love them together.”
Cornell Young IV is blessed to be a part of the Hillman College family.
As the speculation continues, BOSSIP caught up with Young at the Netflix Atlanta premiere of A Different World on Sept. 21, where he opened up about joining the beloved Hillman College family.
Young spoke about feeling grateful to be part of the series and work alongside its talented cast.
“I thank God to be able to work with his beautiful cast. Each and every one of them are amazing. We’re a family,” he told us proudly. “You don’t hear that often in this industry. Like we go to dinner together, we’re intentional with each other…. It’s a blessing.”

Moon and Young star alongside a jam-packed cast that includes Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir Rodale, Kennedi Reece as Hazel Henry, and Chibuikem Uche as Kojo Achebe.
The series also features returning original cast members, or “OGs,” including Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne Wayne, Jasmine Guy as Whitley Gilbert, Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks, and Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson, in addition to numerous other big names.

Whether Moon and Young are simply close co-stars or there’s something more happening behind the scenes, fans are clearly enjoying every moment of the mystery.
