Ed Sheeran Says Friends & Family Have Abandoned Him Amid Macklemore Controversy, Shares Why He Hasn't Canceled Tour | Just Jared

Ed Sheeran got candid with the audience at his tour on Saturday night (September 19).

He was performing at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania over the weekend when he referenced what happened with Macklemore.

If you don’t know, the 35-year-old singer had all of the opening acts and his backing band drop out of the tour after he removed Macklemore from the lineup for making pro-Palestine comments on stage.

Ed Sheeran now says friends and family have started to abandon him over the decision

“In these situations you really find out who your friends are. It’s been a weird week,” he said in a fan video from the concert. “It happened very quickly. At the same time, I had so many people telling me to cancel this tour and so many people I’ve known for years and years and years they’re kind of backing away.”

“In the back of my mind, I saw the ticket sales for this gig and I didn’t see cancellations, I saw people buying tickets for this gig. Everyone’s telling me to cancel and I’m feeling all of my friends and family and people I know abandon me.”

“I look at the end of the week and I see 50,000 people who haven’t abandoned me. People will say what they want, but I am doing this for you. I love you. I love this,” he continued.

Last week, Ed broke his silence on Macklemore being removed from the tour and noted that it was not his decision to do so.

Macklemore also announced he was donating his entire $1 million salary from the tour to support Palestinian people.

Robert Kraft announced that he received a call from Ed asking him to “commit $2 million to match his donation to aid in the region to fight this humanitarian crisis.”
