Ariana Madix Responds to Claims Queer Representation on ‘Love Island USA’ Wouldn’t Work

Ariana Madix is opening up about wanting more queer representation on Love Island USA.

The Peacock dating series has had girls identifying as bisexual on the show in the past, and there have even been some same-sex couplings before.

In a new interview, Ariana was asked about her past comments and how she feels about people saying that it wouldn’t fit with the logistics or format of the popular show.

“We’ll figure out the logistics. When there’s a recoupling, they tell the powers that be. They’re not coming up with it in the moment,” Ariana told Marie Claire. “Making this show is always laying one piece of train track in front of the other as the train is approaching. So we would figure it out.”

“That’s just me being optimistic or maybe delulu, but I certainly think that it’s possible,” the host added.

Ariana also commented on the negative criticism the islanders are bombarded with online while the show airs.

“I don’t think that hate has any place in our viewership whatsoever,” she said. ” I really was excited to hear that they were handling the socials differently this year, with the Islanders turning off certain things on their profiles, because that was something I was hoping that they would have done in season 7 as well.

“Fans are not always going to agree with what someone says or does on the show. That’s the point: We all date differently, we feel differently, we come from different backgrounds,” Ariana continued. “If you want to talk about how you didn’t like the way that someone said or did something, that’s completely fine. But to then harass or send Islanders hate? I think it’s so wrong. Because no matter what, they’re all trying their best in this moment, and that’s all that you could ever ask of somebody.”

If you missed it, Ariana was recently nominated for her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for her work on the show. This is also the first Emmy nomination for the series!
