Ellar Coltrane pursued a surprising career after the success of the 2014 film Boyhood, which took 12 years to make.
The actor, who is now 31, recently shared with Variety that he lives “in the middle of nowhere” and is “pretty far away from film.”

Ellar revealed that he does “manual labor,” and is a volunteer firefighter along with working to get his EMT license.
He has remained in touch with his Boyhood co-stars
The actor also said he has remained in touch with his co-stars, including Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, who played his parents in the film. He’s also stayed in contact with director Richard Linklater and saw all of them Texas for the film’s 12th anniversary last month.

Ellar shared that seeing them all made him miss “being on set” and “collaborating” together.
That being said, he also admitted he didn’t enjoy the fame that came with starring in Boyhood.
“When it released, when I became famous and was going around doing a million Q&A’s and parties, I didn’t enjoy that part so much,” he shared. “But I never wavered in production. I loved it. It was a really wonderful experience for me.”
