Princess Diana's Brother Defends Prince Harry's Return to Britain in Tense Exchange: 'Seems Normal' | Just Jared

Princess Diana‘s brother Charles Spencer is defending Prince Harry‘s decision to move his family back to Britain.

The 9th Earl Spencer discussed his nephew during Tuesday’s (September 29) appearance with royal biographer Tina Brown at St. Peter’s Chelsea in New York City while promoting his memoir Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, according to People.

The conversation turned tense when Tina questioned whether Charles had encouraged Harry to return to the U.K. with his wife Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.

Charles said the two had not discussed the move before pushing back on the idea that Harry‘s decision should be considered surprising.

“But is it astounding that an Englishman wants to move back to England?” he said. “I don’t think so.”

When Tina pointed to Harry‘s complicated relationship with the British press and his previous decision to leave the country, Charles remained firm.

“Seems very normal to me,” he replied.

Charles later explained that he doesn’t like to insert himself into Harry‘s decisions, saying he’s available when his nephew wants his input.

“I never intrude,” he said, adding that he is simply “a guy who’s 20 years older.”

He also offered a straightforward explanation for Harry‘s homecoming, saying that despite the intense public attention surrounding the royal family, “these are just regular people at heart, and this English guy’s lived in California, he wants to live in England. Seems normal.”

Charles also acknowledged that Harry, Meghan, and their children stayed with him and his wife, Cat Spencer, over the summer.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Charles discussed his relationships with Harry and Prince William and revealed that he gave his family very little advance notice before publicly announcing his new memoir.

Earlier this month, Charles went into more detail about where he currently stands amid William and Harry‘s rift.
