Travis Barker is revealing some career advice he shared with son Landon Barker.

During an interview on The New York TimesPopcast podcast, the 50-year-old blink-182 drummer explained why he advised his 22-year-old son to turn down an offer to appear on The Voice.

“My son called me the other day and he’s like, ‘Hey, they offered me to go on The Voice,'” Travis recalled. “I was like, ‘Dude, you’re way too cool for that. You got to think about your idols. If your idol is Kurt Cobain, would he ever do The Voice? No.'”

If you didn’t know, Landon has been pursuing a music career for the past few years now. In 2022, he was featured on Machine Gun Kelly‘s song “Die in California.” In 2023, he signed to Travis‘ record label, Elektra Imprint DTA Record, and released his debut single “Friends With Your EX” later that year.

Travis went on to acknowledge that the advice might be contradictory, since he’s performed on American Idol several times over the years.

“I’m different,” he explained. “I’m doing fun s–t that’s just fun for me ’cause I’m a drummer and I’m not on the forefront. It’d be different if I was singing with all these people.”

Travis also told Landon to “stay on your own trajectory.”

“I’m in the studio, I hear the songs that he’s creating,” he added. “There’s no rush, you know?”

Back in June, Travis and wife Kourtney Kardashian walked their first red carpet together in over two years at the world premiere of his new documentary, Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear.
