The Weeknd Debuts New Song ‘Tokyo’ Featuring Yoko Takahashi

The Weeknd just debuted a brand new song with a special connection to one of Japan’s most iconic anime series!

The 36-year-old singer kicked off the final leg of his After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour with back-to-back shows at Belluna Dome in Japan over the weekend.

During the shows, The Weeknd debuted a new song titled “Tokyo” featuring Japanese singer Yoko Takahashi, who is best known for performing the Neon Genesis Evangelion opening theme “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis.”

The Weeknd Debuts New Song With Yoko Takahashi

Yoko made a special appearance during the opening show on Saturday (September 19), joining The Weeknd for a performance of her 1995 hit “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis,” the opening theme from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The new song featuring Yoko was accompanied by a special visual created by Yoko Taro, the creator of the NieR video game series. The visual incorporated imagery from both NieR: Automata and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The two Tokyo-area concerts marked the beginning of the first-ever Asian leg of the After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour. The 17-date run is also the final leg of the stadium tour before it comes to an end.

The tour will next head to Jakarta before making stops in Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.

There is not yet a confirmed release date for “Tokyo.”
