‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Season 4: Has AMC Renewed the Series After the Season 3 Finale?

The Walking Dead: Dead City season three just came to an end this weekend.

The AMC spinoff series, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, aired its third season finale on Sunday night (September 13).

In the episode, titled “Tenebrae,” Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) fight walkers to rescue their community, including Luis, from enemy clutches.

You may be wondering if the show will be back for a fourth season, after season three left the door open for more. So, has Dead City been picked up for another season?

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 4 status revealed

At the time of this post, AMC has not announced whether The Walking Dead: Dead City will return for Season 4.

However, the show’s creative team is already thinking about where the story could go next.

Lauren Cohan, who stars as Maggie and serves as an executive producer, recently revealed that there are already ideas being discussed for another season.

“We have a lot of ideas that are outside the box for another season,” she told People, adding that the team wants to come up with stories that can still surprise both her and co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

She also made it clear that she believes there are still plenty of stories left to tell with Maggie, saying that the possibilities are “endless” as long as the writing remains strong and the characters continue to evolve.

Meanwhile, showrunner Seth Hoffman discussed where a potential Season 4 could go in an interview published just days before the Season 3 finale, including the possibility of continuing to expand the show’s connections to the wider Walking Dead universe.

AMC’s Chief Content Officer talks future of The Walking Dead franchise

AMC’s Chief Content Officer, Scott Gimple, has also recently addressed the potential for a fourth season.

“But will we see as many series? I’m not sure. You see it across Star Wars, you see it across Marvel. There’s definitely going to be more series, both shorter things and ongoing things. But it’ll probably be a bit… The rollout will be slightly slower. But more, definitely more,” he told The Direct about The Walking Dead franchise. “And there are cool things in the works. I had a lot of conversations, even this week, about that. But the urgency and the speed, like ‘Get ot out, get it out, get it out.’ … It’s just a different time, but that time does allow us to get it right.”

He added that he is actively planning and hoping for a fourth season of Dead City.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is already confirmed to return for a fourth and final season, debuting in 2027.
