‘The Legend of Zelda’ Live-Action Movie Cast Updates: Sam Neill’s Final Film Role and 3 More Stars Confirmed

The Legend of Zelda is getting a live-action movie adaptation, and more stars were just announced!

The late Sam Neill, who passed away suddenly last month, will make his final on-screen appearance in the film, according to Deadline, which he filmed before his death.

Filming began last summer and wrapped back in April. It’s unclear who Sam will portray.

In addition to Sam, three more stars have been announced.

Uli Latukefu has been cast as the lead villain, Ganondorf, who is a “powerful warlock king driven to dominate protagonists Link and Princess Zelda’s kingdom of Hyrule.” Per Deadline, he has signed on for a multi-picture deal!

Yvonne Strahovski joins the cast as a reported queen character, while Dichen Lachman has been cast as Impa, “the bodyguard and advisor to Zelda.”

Last summer, it was announced that newcomer Bo Bragason will portray Princess Zelda, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will star as Link.

News of the live-action film adaptation was first announced by the video game’s creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, in November 2023.

Wes Ball is directing with the most recent script by TS Nowlin. The movie is currently slated for a May 7, 2027 release.

If you’re unfamiliar with the games, The Legend of Zelda “follows the elf-like warrior Link and Princess Zelda as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord-turned-demon king,” and has sold over 150 million units since its launch in 1986!
