Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is speaking out following news of the new spinoff series.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Charlie Hunnam and several of his former co-stars will be sharing the screen together once again, in the new FX limited series Legends, which is being developed and executive produced by the 46-year-old actor.
Kurt – who created, wrote, produced, and directed the original series – will not be involved in the spinoff.
After Legends was announced, Kurt shared a video on Instagram reacting to the news and giving the new show his “full blessing.”
“I’m not involved with Legends at all, nor should I be,” Kurt began. “It has nothing to do with the characters I created or the mythology. It is really about the show and the legacy of the show, and quite frankly, there are thousands of people who are responsible for that legacy.”
“Just want folks to know that Charlie came to me early on, when he was in the process of pitching this to the network, to ask for my blessing, knowing that the IP would probably not be able to be invoked for various reasons of legalese stuff, and I gave Charlie my full blessing,” he continued. “I wish nothing but the best for him in this project. My wife is in the project.”
Kurt‘s wife Katey Sagel will be reprising her role as Gemma Teller in Legends.
What is Legends about?
The upcoming limited series is described as a “meta-thriller” and follows the cast of Sons of Anarchy playing themselves as they reunite “at a fan convention after more than a decade, the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show.”
Who all is joining Charlie in the series?
In addition to Charlie and Katey, Sons of Anarchy stars Ron Perlman, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi are all set to join the new series.
According to Deadline, Charlie has been developing the new show for the past three years. Black-ish producer Jonathan Groff (not the actor!) is also developing and executive producing alongside the actor.
Rob Mac is also producing, and Legends will be available to watch on FX and Hulu.
