Sasha Pieterse to Star in Rosemary Kennedy Movie Based on Tragic True Story - Just Jared - Celebrity News and Gossip

Sasha Pieterse has landed an exciting new movie role!

The 30-year-old Pretty Little Liars star has signed on to lead Rosemary, a new psychological thriller centered on the life of Rosemary Kennedy, according to Deadline.

The upcoming film will recount Rosemary Kennedy‘s tragic story “from her perspective” and aims to offer a more personal look at one of the most talked-about figures in the Kennedy family.

Rosemary will be written and directed by Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert. The project is based on the All That’s Interesting article “Rosemary Kennedy, JFK’s Sister Who Was Lobotomized and Locked Away.”

According to the outlet, the thriller will “dramatize Rosemary Kennedy’s struggle with mental health, the devastating decision by her father, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., to subject her to a lobotomy at age 23, and the long–lasting consequences of that choice.”

Rosemary Kennedy was the sister of President John F. Kennedy and senators Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy. As a child and young adult, Rosemary experienced developmental challenges and later struggled with behavioral issues.

At age 23, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. arranged for Rosemary to undergo a lobotomy, a procedure that left her permanently incapacitated. Rosemary spent much of her life isolated from family and friends at a Wisconsin institution. She died of natural causes in 2005 at the age of 86.

Sasha shared why the project resonated with her in a statement.

“Rosemary’s story has been told in fragments. What drew me to this project is how it explores her as a person, not a symbol, but a fully realized human being with dreams and vulnerabilities.”
