RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is leaving the BBC, but the franchise isn’t going away!

It has been confirmed that the British edition of RuPaul‘s hit reality competition series will leave the BBC following its currently airing eighth season and move to a new streaming home.

The news comes after an earlier report claimed the BBC had axed the series amid financial cuts.

However, Variety reports that Drag Race UK will live on at WOW Presents Plus, with a brand new iteration of the show coming in 2027.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK: All Stars Is Coming in 2027!

The franchise will return in fall 2027 with the first-ever season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK: All Stars, celebrating the queens who have previously appeared on the U.K. series.

The new season will stream globally on WOW Presents Plus, including in the U.K. The streaming service will also become home to all eight seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and all three seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs the World.

Why Is RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Leaving the BBC?

The BBC confirmed that it was parting ways with the franchise while addressing the decision in a statement.

“As the BBC continues to navigate significant financial pressures and deliver the savings required of us, we have had to make some very difficult choices, none of which have been taken lightly,” a spokesperson said to The Sun.

“We can therefore confirm together with World of Wonder, that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be leaving the BBC and moving to WOW Presents Plus,” they continued.

World of Wonder co-founders and Drag Race producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato also addressed the future of the franchise.

“Historically, during times of anxiety and regression, the queer, trans and drag communities are often targeted. Today is no exception,” they said in a statement, adding that they remain “steadfast in the values that make RuPaul’s Drag Race more than just a fiercely entertaining show.”

The currently airing eighth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will continue on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
