‘RHOSLC’ Alum Jen Shah Officially Completes Federal Sentence Months After Prison Release

Jen Shah is marking the end of her federal sentence.

Months after being released from prison and transferred to home confinement tied to her role in a nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme, the 52-year-old Real Housewives of Salt Lake City alum completed serving her federal sentence on Friday (August 28).

“Today marks the official completion of my sentence and the closing of a chapter that changed my life and my family forever,” Jen said in a statement with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I made decisions that had serious consequences, and I accept those consequences,” she added. “I’ve had years to look honestly at my own choices — the people I trusted and allowed into my life, the red flags I ignored, the questions I should have asked, and the moments when I should have stopped and listened to my instincts.”

“I can see those things today in a way I couldn’t then, and I take responsibility for the decisions that were mine,” she continued.

Jen shared, “Moving forward doesn’t mean forgetting that real people were hurt or treating the consequences of this chapter lightly. I carry that awareness with me, and I always will. But I’ve also learned that acknowledging your past doesn’t mean you have to live in it. I can’t change the chapters I’ve already lived, but I can decide what I do with what they taught me. Today, more than anything, I feel grateful, hopeful and genuinely excited about the future.”

As she looks forward to life post-sentence, Jen said she’s looking forward to having “my voice back and the freedom to decide what that next chapter looks like.”

“For a very long time, I wasn’t in a position to speak for myself while my story continued to be told around me. There is a lot people know about my story, and there is also a lot they don’t — including the reasons behind some of the most difficult decisions I made,” she continued. “I’m not interested in relitigating the past. I’m interested in what comes next. And for the first time in a very long time, I have my voice back and the freedom to decide what that next chapter looks like.”

“I’m ready to work. I’m ready to create. I’m ready to laugh, have meaningful conversations, reconnect with people and build things I’m proud of,” Jen concluded. “There are projects ahead that I’m incredibly excited about, and I’ll share more when the time is right.”

In April 2021, Jen and her assistant Stuart Smith were arrested for for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering in a telemarketing scam. At the time, she maintained her innocence after the arrest and pleaded not guilty to the charges, while Stuart plead guilty in November 2021.

After months of claiming she was innocent, Jen entered a guilty plea during her court appearance in July 2022.

In January 2023, Jen was sentenced to 78 months, which is six years and six months, in prison and will be subject to five years of supervised release once she gets out.

She surrendered to the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas in February 2023 to begin her sentence, and after good behavior and participation in prison programs, Jen was released from prison and returned home to Salt Lake City in December 2025.
