Phyllida Law has sadly passed away.

The Scottish actress, who is also the mother to Emma Thompson and Sophie Thompson, passed away at the age of 94.

“It is with great sadness we have to announce that Phyllida Law died supremely peacefully at home, surrounded by all of her family, on Monday 27th July. We had worked together for over fifty years and she was a beautiful person inside and out,” her manager Jacky Leggo told the BBC.

Phyllida starred in 1996’s Emma alongside her daughter Sophie, and in 1992’s Peter’s Friends with daughter Emma. They later starred in Much Ado About Nothing together, as well as 1997’s The Winter Guest. Phyllida also voiced a role in Emma‘s 2005 movie Nanny McPhee.

She also starred in Anna Karenina (1997), Miss Potter (2006), and Albert Nobbs (2011), as well as TV shows like Dickson of Dock Green, Rumpole of the Bailey, Midsomer Murders, Foyle’s War, Doc Martin and New Tricks.

Phyllida married fellow actor Eric Thompson in 1957, staying together until his death due to a heart attack in 1982.

She received an OBE in 2014 for services to drama and for charitable services.

Phyllida Law‘s final screen role was in the 2020 romantic comedy film Then Came You, where she played the character Arlene.
