Perez Hilton’s Live Stream: TikTok Explains the ‘Delay’ in Removing the Disturbing Content, Bans His Account

By now, you might have seen the news about Perez Hilton and his disturbing TikTok live stream.

If you don’t know, the 48-year-old gossip blogger was hospitalized after he was livestreaming on social media and appeared to be engaging in self-harm. Police responded to his home before he was taken to a local hospital. This all went down in the evening hours of Tuesday (August 4).

However, there’s growing questions online about how this imagery was allowed to be broadcast across social media.

A TikTok rep released a statement about the Perez Hilton live stream, explaining why there was a “delay” in removing the content

“Our automated moderation systems flagged the live stream within minutes and routed it to our U.S. moderation team for review. However, a moderator error caused a delay in the removal. We proactively alerted law enforcement to the situation to help get the individual support,” the said to TMZ.

They added it was “factually wrong” that the stream remained live for 30 minutes. Instead, they claim it was taken down in “about half that time.” A rep for the app also shared that any stream started after by him were removed within 90 seconds, and the account was then banned.

The content that was live streamed goes against the TikTok Community Guidelines.
