Miranda Lambert & Ella Langley’s ‘Snakeskin Boots’ Lyrics & Meaning Explained: What the Song Is About

Miranda Lambert and Ella Langley have teamed up for “Snakeskin Boots,” and there’s a fun story behind their new collaboration!
The country stars joined forces for the opening track on Miranda‘s new album Crisco, which arrives on Friday (October 2).
“Snakeskin Boots” finds the singers embodying a mysterious woman who’s always on the move, escaping trouble while leaving a trail behind her.
Luckily, Miranda has already revealed exactly what inspired the song and why she knew Ella needed to sing it with her.

What Is “Snakeskin Boots” About?
“Snakeskin Boots” is described as a larger-than-life story about a woman who knows “exactly how to make her escape.”
That idea comes through in the lyrics, as the song introduces us to a mysterious woman who has left Los Angeles behind and can’t seem to be caught or tied down.
Miranda offered an especially helpful comparison while explaining the song’s story.
“To me, this song is kind of Thelma and Louise if they didn’t drive off the cliff,” she said, relating it to two women “getting away with something.”
Musically, the song was built around the swagger of late-’60s cinematic Westerns and the attitude of Nancy Sinatra‘s “Bang Bang.”
Miranda and co-producer Jesse Frasure drew from the dramatic soundscapes of that era, creating something described in the official release as equally suited for a Quentin Tarantino movie or the dance floor at Studio 54.
That blend also fits the larger concept behind Crisco, which explores the shared history of country and disco music across its 12 tracks.

Why Does Ella Langley Sing on “Snakeskin Boots”?
Ella wasn’t brought onto the song after the fact. Miranda revealed that they actually had her in mind while writing it.
“We wrote ‘Snakeskin Boots’ with Ella in mind. She and I are kindred spirits, and when we were working on her album, I realized how many retro influences we share,” Miranda explained.
The pair’s creative relationship has grown over the past several years, with Miranda serving as a mentor, co-writer and co-producer for Ella.
Miranda co-produced Ella‘s Dandelion project and appeared with her on “Butterfly Season.” She also co-wrote and co-produced Ella‘s record-breaking “Choosin’ Texas.”
That shared musical sensibility ultimately made Ella the natural choice to join Miranda on “Snakeskin Boots.”
“She’s the perfect partner for that,” Miranda said.

Who Wrote “Snakeskin Boots”?
“Snakeskin Boots” was written by Miranda Lambert, Natalie Hemby, Brendan McLoughlin and Jesse Frasure.
Brendan, who co-wrote the track, has been married to Miranda since 2019.
The song was co-produced by Miranda and Jesse Frasure.
It serves as the opening track on Crisco and is also scheduled to make its world premiere at country radio on October 2.
