Luigi Mangione Misses Scheduled Court Date Due to Error

Luigi Mangione has missed a scheduled court appearance on Tuesday (June 16), and it all comes down to a paperwork issue.
The 28-year-old, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was supposed to be in court amid his murder trial.
Judge Gregory Carro announced upon his arrival: “Unfortunately, the defendant will not be produced today, no fault of this court,” via The Guardian.
“It’s on us,” prosecutor Joel Seidemann admitted, saying they got paperwork signed to have Luigi transported to court from jail, but didn’t deliver the paperwork.
Instead, he’ll now appear the next day on Wednesday (June 17).
He is facing both federal and state charges in connection to the 2024 killing, and has pleaded not guilty in both cases.
Earlier in the month, Luigi attended a sealed hearing that the press and public could not attend.
He had scored a partial legal victory ahead of his murder trial last month.
A state trial is set to start in September, followed by a federal trial later in the fall. Luigi has been held in prison at federal Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since December of 2024.
He recently turned 28 in prison, and received a $28,000 donation to his legal fund at the same time.
