King Harald of Norway is in “very serious” condition.
The 89-year-old monarch has been in the hospital for nearly two weeks now, and the Royal House of Norway just provided a news update on Thursday (August 27).
What is the latest regarding the King’s health?
“His Majesty the King’s health has deteriorated. His Majesty the King’s health condition is very serious,” the update reads, via People.
Who is with him in the hospital?
The King’s wife Queen Sonja of Norway, son and heir Crown Prince Haakon and wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit have suspended royal engagements and are at his bedside, the update also revealed.
The King’s older sister, Princess Astrid, have also been seen at the hospital.
Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre just cancelled a trip to Germany, where he was expected to meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“The whole nation is with us as we send warm thoughts to the king and the rest of the royal family,” he said, via BBC.
What did the Royal House previously say?
On August 23, the Royal House reported: “His Majesty The King’s condition worsened over the weekend. His Majesty is receiving antibiotics for a bloodstream bacterial infection and has responded to this treatment. The situation is stable. His Majesty will remain at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, and is on sick leave until further notice.”

The King of Norway has reigned since 1991. His 53-year-old son Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway is the heir apparent. He married Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway, in 2001, and they have two kids together: Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus. (She has an older son, Marius Borg Høiby, as well.)
