Keke Palmer is confirming that her chemistry with Sean Evans is real but she isn’t ready for the internet to marry her off just yet.

During an appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle on Monday (July 27), Keke was asked whether her connection with the Hot Ones host was genuine or simply part of their playful dynamic.

“Our chemistry is genuine… I couldn’t force that if I tried,” she said. “We always felt that chemistry.”

While the One of Them Days star did not deny the spark between them, she was surprised by how quickly her fans started treating their connection like something seriously romantic.

“I was gagged that everybody was ready to marry me off,” Keke said. “Guys, let it cook! They married your girl off in two seconds!”

Keke described their dynamic in terms of how naturally they connected through work before they began spending time together away from the cameras.

“It’s life. Essentially, we met at work. We had chemistry. Work husband, work wife. You just have that chemistry with people. Then, we hang out,” she said.

The intense online scrutiny has not changed how Keke is approaching her connection with Sean. She instead characterized the online reaction as part of a broader “parasocial” culture that can turn limited public information into its own narrative.

“I don’t let it define the way that I think. If anything, I’m always trying to contextualize things. A lot of times I feel like people get that about me. You can’t just take everything at face value. You have to be critically thinking bout everything you see,” she explained.

The Nope actress and the interviewer’s flirtation has been building publicly for months. Following their Hot Ones kiss, Sean appeared on Baby, This Is Keke Palmer in May, where she introduced him as a “potential future suitor.” They were later spotted having dinner together in New York City in June.
