Jim Carrey Confirmed to Star in Live-Action ‘The Jetsons’ Movie Nearly a Year After Initial Reports

It’s official – Jim Carrey has been confirmed to be starring in an upcoming live-action film adaptation of The Jetsons!

The 64-year-old actor is set to lead the movie, based on the popular 1960s cartoon series, Warner Bros Discovery revealed in a Q2 letter to shareholders, per People.

News of the movie and Jim‘s casting was first revealed back in October 2025, with Colin Trevorrow in talks to direct and co-write with Joe Epstein.

If you’re unfamiliar, The Jetsons first premiered in 1962 on ABC, and was a futuristic series set in the space-age optimism of the times. They were also the “first family to have a big-screen home entertainment system decades before it became a reality,” along with “flying cars, floating cities and androids.”

The original series only ran for one year until 1963, but it was revived in the 1980s for 51 more episodes, as well as a 1990 movie!

Jim will presumably portray the patriarch George Jetson, who worked as a digital index operator at Spacely’s Space Sprockets.

The actor is no stranger to bringing characters to life in a live-action adaptation. Over the past six years, he has played Doctor Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, and he also played The Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Next year, Jim will be back as Doctor Robotnik for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is slated to debut on March 19, 2027.
