The 44-year-old actor, who plays Dr. Benson “Blue” Kwan on the long-running medical drama, recently spoke out in an interview about his fate on the ABC show.

When asked if his Dancing With the Stars casting means he’s checked out of Grey Sloan for good, Harry admitted that he doesn’t know.

Will Blue Get His Job Back at Grey Sloan?

“I don’t know,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “We’re trying to work it out…I mean, Blue was fired, so we’ll see if he gets back and how that happens.”

If you haven’t been following along with the drama, Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) discovered that Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) covered for Blue after he gave a liver cancer patient an experimental treatment that was not approved by the FDA.

“A lot of people have been fired on the show, so it’s the interesting part to see if they can get their jobs back,” Harry went on to say to EW.

Harry Shum Jr. Is Filming Grey’s Anatomy Season 23

Harry has confirmed separately that he is currently filming Grey’s Anatomy while rehearsing for Dancing With the Stars, indicating that viewers will see Blue in Season 23. However, his comments to EW leave questions about what Blue’s future at Grey Sloan will look like after his firing.

Harry joined Grey’s Anatomy in Season 19, which premiered in October 2022, as surgical resident Dr. Benson “Blue” Kwan.

Just a few days before, a new name joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy for the upcoming Season 23.
