Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison After New York Retrial

Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in New York.

The 74-year-old former movie producer received his sentence on Wednesday (September 23), more than a year after he was convicted of a first-degree criminal sexual act involving former Project Runway production assistant Miriam Haley.

Prosecutors had sought a 20-year sentence, while Harvey faced a maximum of 25 years behind bars. He has already served approximately six years stemming from the case.

Harvey Weinstein’s New York Case Explained

Harvey was originally convicted in 2020 of sexually assaulting Miriam in 2006 and raping Jessica Mann in 2013. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

However, New York’s highest court overturned that conviction in 2024 and ordered a new trial, finding that the original judge improperly allowed testimony from women whose allegations were not part of the charges being tried.

At his 2025 retrial, Harvey was again found guilty of sexually assaulting Miriam. He was acquitted of a separate charge involving former model Kaja Sokola, while the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the rape charge involving Jessica.

The charge involving Jessica went to trial again earlier this year, but another mistrial was declared in May after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

In June, prosecutors announced that they would not pursue a fourth trial after Jessica said she could not endure testifying again.

Following Wednesday’s sentencing, Harvey‘s representatives said they plan to continue challenging the case.

“Harvey will continue to pursue every legal avenue available to him,” his representatives said in a statement, via TheWrap. “There are serious legal issues that remain to be addressed, and today’s sentence will be reviewed as part of the appellate process.”

Harvey also remains convicted of rape and sexual assault in California. An appeals court upheld that 2022 conviction in June, but vacated his 16-year sentence and ordered that he be resentenced.

He has denied sexually assaulting anyone.
