Evan Rachel Wood is sharing her thoughts on Practical Magic 2, one year after announcing that she would not be returning for the sequel.

The actress played Kylie Owens in the original 1998 movie, the daughter of Sandra Bullock‘s character Sally Owens. Both her and actress Alexandra Artrip, who played her younger sister Antonia, were not invited back for the sequel.

Sandra and co-star Nicole Kidman are reprising their roles as the Owens sisters with Joey King and Maisie Williams taking over the roles of Kylie and Antonia.

Last year, Evan announced, “I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice.”

It has been speculated that producers decided to cast younger actresses because of the storyline in the sequel book, but Evan says this doesn’t make sense.

“I read the book, and it seems like they’re not following the book,” she told ET. “I think, in the book, it would have made sense to bring me back. I think in the way they’re approaching it, the way they’re doing it, it didn’t make sense. We bonded with that cast so much as children. And so, to miss out on the opportunity to look at that cast and look at that house as an adult and see the history in our eyes is something that can’t be faked.”

“I’m sad that that doesn’t get to exist, especially for the fans,” she continued. “But I wish them all the best and obviously wish Joey King the best. And I hope she had a great time and I still have really fond memories of being in the original.”
