A representative for the White House has hit back at Elizabeth Banks after she expressed disappointment in voters for not voting for Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.

“I wish more of us were becoming revolutionaries. Yeah. Effie is the model guys. She’s the model,” Elizabeth said on Bustle’s One Nightstand podcast released on Tuesday (April 14). Effie is a reference to her Hunger Games character Effie Trinket, who was part of the in-universe fascist regime before later joining the opposition along with Katniss Everdeen and others.

“I don’t understand the 53% of white ladies that didn’t vote for Kamala,” Elizabeth expressed. “I mean, what were you thinking?”

She later continued, “Effie for me is one of the characters that has the greatest arc that I’ve ever played because obviously she props up this fascist regime that she benefits from. It’s not until she really comes to care for and see how unfair it is when they want to pull Katniss and Peta into the games again. [She realizes] that’s not the deal here. It’s not supposed to be like this.”

In response, a White House press office spokesperson gave the following comment to Us Weekly, “Nobody in their right mind cares what out-of-touch, woke celebrities in Hollywood say or think.”

The actress is now starring in the Peacock series The Miniature Wife. Watch the trailer!
