David Krumholtz is done with acting after decades in Hollywood.

On Monday (August 17), the 48-year-old Oppenheimer actor announced that he is putting his “acting career on hold” for an indefinite amount of time as he admits he’s “fed up” by the entertainment industry.

“I kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day. It’s been something I’ve been petrified to do for years,” David wrote in a post on Threads. “Specifically, the fear was that I’d go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game.”

He went on to say that he’s “sent the definitive email” pausing his acting career, and he feels good about his decision.

“A huge wave of relief washed over me,” he wrote. “Not sure what I’m going to do for money instead, or how I’m going to do it, but I just removed a humongous burden, one that I truly didn’t fathom the weight of until it was gone. Frustrated, fed up, fried.”

In a number of follow-up posts, David spoke more about his decision to pause his career, clarifying that he’s not retiring, but rather “redefining my terms,” adding, “Hoping to find a new, more rewarding passion. Me, my product, and I mentality is not working anymore. I want to try to be of service. No crystal ball.”

As for what he might want to do next, David said, “Inspire kids in school through motivational speaking.”
