Christopher Nolan Movie Passes 'Jurassic World' for Universal Record

Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey just sailed past another massive box office milestone!

The star-studded epic has officially become Universal Pictures’ highest-grossing movie of all time at the worldwide box office, overtaking a record that had stood for more than a decade.

The record previously belonged to 2015’s Jurassic World.

How Much Has The Odyssey Made at the Box Office?

Universal announced that The Odyssey had surpassed $1.677 billion worldwide, officially overtaking Jurassic World. The studio projected that the movie would finish the weekend with approximately $1.685 billion worldwide.

That total includes approximately $601.2 million domestically and $1.083 billion internationally.

The movie has now surpassed Jurassic World, which earned approximately $1.677 billion worldwide during its theatrical run in 2015, to claim the studio’s all-time global box office record. (The figures are not adjusted for inflation.)

It’s only the latest record for the blockbuster, which stars Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron and more.

What Other Records Has The Odyssey Broken?

The Odyssey is now the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide and the third highest-grossing non-franchise movie ever, according to Universal.

The movie previously became Christopher‘s highest-grossing film as a director, surpassing his previous career record.

It has also become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time and set a new worldwide box office record for IMAX, per Universal.

The achievement comes nearly two months after The Odyssey arrived in theaters on July 17.
