Caitriona Balfe to Star In Alfonso Cuarón’s New Horror Thriller Series ‘Ascension’ Ordered by Apple TV

Caitriona Balfe is heading to Apple TV!

On Monday (August 10), Deadline announced that the streaming service has ordered Ascension, a new horror thriller series from Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón.

Caitriona, 46, will be starring in the series and also executive producing.

Inspired by the novel Last Days by Adam Nevill, Ascension “explores evil and innocence at the highest level, while asking how far we’ll go – and what we’ll sacrifice – to protect the ones we love, even when the greatest threat to them may be ourselves.”

The series follows Caitriona‘s Rose, “a relentless documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother, brilliant at uncovering others’ truths but struggling to resolve her own. When Rose begins a project on a mysterious 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension, she finds unexpected refuge in its teachings – until she discovers something far more insidious beneath.”

Ascension marks Caitriona‘s returning to TV after her hit Starz season Outlander concluded earlier this year.

The series will be co-showrun by Natalie Erika James and Christian White, who also co-wrote the series with Alfonso and his brother Carlos Cuarón.
