Big Brother's Jason De Puy Explains Why He Thinks 'Drag Race' Alums Have Faced Early Elimination on Reality TV, Wants More LGBTQ+ Representation on 'BB' | Just Jared - Celebrity News and Gossip

Jason De Puy, aka Salina EsTitties, was eliminated from Big Brother season 28 last week, and Just Jared got to sit down with him.

We asked Jason, “There’s some discourse online about Drag Race stars getting eliminated from reality TV shows early on, for the most part. Do you have thoughts on why you think this might be happening?”

If you’re a reality TV fan, The Traitors comes to mind with regard to Drag Race alums. Peppermint was famously sent home far too early – in episode 2 – of The Traitors season two during the first roundtable banishment. Bob the Drag Queen was sent home in episode four in season three of the Peacock hit.

Jason reflected on his time in the Big Brother house in answering our question

Jason had a lot of thoughts about his time in the Big Brother house, and responded by first relating this question to his own experience in the BB28 house. And then, he revealed why he really thinks this might be happening on other reality TV shows.

Jason shared, “Oh, you know what? I think it’s so hard, you know, being in that house, being the person I am, coming from the world that I live in. I just—it’s such a different world when I’m in the house with…all these straight people who don’t have a fraction of the life experience that I had to face…especially being sober, especially, you know, being a queen in nightlife who traveled the world on reality television, has already gotten backlash and hate from fans online before. I dealt with all that before. So I just had a very unique point of view walking in the house that people didn’t have. So to dumb myself down, especially since I didn’t reveal I was on Drag Race, was an interesting experience for me. Not only was I experiencing isolation of being the only person in the house who was me, but also, I had to dumb myself down and make myself seem less threatening as a show person, even though I can sense that Devens and Angela could clock my showmanship, right? And I felt that they were threatened by that. So it was an interesting experience to walk through. But, you know, I’m grateful to CBS for picking a drag, like picking me as a drag queen, as the gay representation this season.”

He continued, “I mean, what a unique experience for me to be the one to experience who Jason is while the world experiences Jason, because I never allowed myself to experience Jason. You know, I always say like, oh, Selena gets all the recognition and is the face of who I am. But I was the face of who I am. And I think we learned at the tea party, I learned who I was very quickly in that moment. I’m very proud of who I’m become, who I am, being alone.”

Jason then revealed why he thinks Drag Race alums might be getting eliminated earlier in some of these reality TV shows

Jason said, “Yeah, you know, these drag queens can’t get far in the game, it’s because I think people are very threatened by our confidence, how secure we are with who we are, our point of view, and the way that we’re willing to fight and not, you know, cower down is threatening.”

Just Jared followed up with, “Would you like to see more gay representation on Big Brother? I mean, more than one contestant [per season]?”

Jason said, “One thousand percent. Can you imagine the alliance that would get made? Can you imagine them turning on each other? America would love to see that. That’s drama, honey. And they would be so dramatic with each other. A showmance. Like I really thought I could have had a showmance this season. I thought it was a gay season! I looked at Barrett, I looked at Rome and Drew and I said, ‘oh my gays are in the house with me!’ And I learned very quickly they weren’t.

Ultimately, Jason said he thinks it would be very powerful for CBS to have more LGBTQ+ representation with their casting.

He commented, “So I think it would just open the door for [a] conversation and to see how powerful we could be together. And maybe that’s the problem. Maybe America’s afraid to see a bunch of gays rally together and become in power. Because, you know, that’s not something people are still rooting for this day. We still face a lot of homophobia and stuff. So maybe that’ll be too powerful. Two gay guys in a house, two queer people.”
