'American Idol' Singer Caleb Flynn Found Guilty of Killing His Wife, Faces Life in Prison | Just Jared

Caleb Flynn has been found guilty on all counts in connection with the murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn.

The former American Idol contestant and music pastor, who made it to the Hollywood round of season 12 back in 2013, was charged with killing his wife at their Ohio home and then staging it as a home invasion and murder.

Prosecutors said that Flynn “wanted to be a victim” and he wanted to start a new life with his mistress, having “his daughters all to himself.” The mistress, Alleigha Botner, testified against him during the trial. She confirmed that they met when she was 20 and working at his church and that they were having an affair at the time of Ashley‘s death.

Botner shared text messages in which Flynn discussed wanting his wife to be dead. One alleged message said, “I was up until 4 a.m. last night crying, literally trying to think of ways to kill her and not go to jail.”

She says her feelings for Flynn changed “because I believe that he murdered his wife.”

It took the jury just over two hours of deliberation to come to their verdict, finding Flynn guilty “on all nine counts of murder, assault and tampering with evidence,” according to NBC News.

Flynn broke down in tears as the verdict was read. He is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 5.
