Amazon Drops Luca Guadagnino's Nearly Finished Movie 'Artificial' Amid $50 Billion Investment Into OpenAI - Just Jared - Celebrity News and Gossip

Luca Guadagnino is nearly finished with making his upcoming movie Artificial and now Amazon MGM Studios has decided to drop the film from its slate.

The movie is about OpenAI CEO Sam Altman with Oscar-nominated actor Andrew Garfield playing the tech billionaire.

The news comes just months after Amazon made an investment of $50 billion into OpenAI as part of a new partnership between the companies. Puck reports that Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios chief Mike Hopkins delivered the news to Luca and the producers of the film.

Amazon confirms that the movie has been dropped

A spokesperson for Amazon told THR, “We have the utmost respect and admiration for Luca Guadagnino as an award-winning filmmaker — not to mention a longstanding relationship that we hope to continue. We believe that Artificial will be better served if it were released by a different studio and are working closely with the filmmaking team to find the film a new home.”

What is Artificial about?

Plot details for the movie have been kept under wraps, but it has previously been described as a “comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence.”

The movie is said to follow the days in 2023 when Altman was fired and rehired from the company with Anora‘s Yura Borisov starring as co-founder Iya Stuskever.

Other cast members include Andrew‘s real-life girlfriend Monica Barbaro, as well as Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman, Cooper Koch, Ike Barinholtz, Billie Lourd, Zosia Mamet, Angus Imrie, Chris O’Dowd and Mark Rylance.

What is the future for Artificial?

The movie is being shopped to other studios and Variety reports there were “positive” reactions at screenings this week.
