Alan Cumming Admits He Doesn't 'Fully Understand' the Plot of 'Avengers: Doomsday' | Just Jared

Alan Cumming is opening up about his experience filming Avengers: Doomsday.

The 61-year-old actor is reprising his role as Kurt Wagner, a.k.a. Nightcrawler, from the Fox X-Men films in the upcoming movie and has shared that he doesn’t fully understand the plot.

“In terms of The Avengers, I’m just absolutely terrified to say anything,” Alan shared during a recent interview with SiriusXM. “And also, to be honest, I don’t fully understand the plot.”

The Traitors host described a scene they shot where a man came in and it was one of “rare scenes” when he was actually on the back lot proper and not in front of a blue screen.

“And this man came and said, ‘So right now, Alan, these giant robots are blah blah,’ and started to tell me the thing,” he recalled.

“And I was like, ‘You know what. Thank you so much, but I just… tell me where I point my whatever I point. And I’ll do that.’ I just know I’m here to run around,” Alan continued.

He said he hadn’t even met all of his scene partners on set, having run into Florence Pugh for the first time at the Emmys.

“I saw Florence Pugh yesterday at the Emmys, and I said, ‘Gosh, it’s so funny. I’ve never met you, but you lay on top of me. Or your body double did.’ And she goes, ‘Yeah, I laid on top of you as well, but it was your body double.’”

Alan reflected on a former slip-up and the challenges of knowing what has to stay secret

He admitted that it’s hard to know what you’re allowed to say and what not to say, as well as accidentally saying something previously “that was misconstrued,” since there’s “not really anyone to coach you on what you’re allowed to say.”

In May 2025, Alan alluded to a fight scene with Pedro Pascal, who plays Mr. Fantastic, during an interview with BuzzFeed UK, which is likely what he was referring to when discussing a moment that was “misconstrued.”

He later addressed the moment during his episode hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live and revealed his publicist called him about the slip.

“The wrath of your publicist is not a wrath you want to have,” he said.
