Victoria Monét and Bruno Mars have a romantic new collaboration out now!

The 37-year-old Grammy-winning singer teamed up with the 40-year-old superstar for “That’s Why I Love You,” featured on her brand new album Frequency of Love, which was released on Friday (October 2).

The duet marks a reunion of sorts for the two stars after Victoria joined Bruno across European and UK dates on his The Romantic Tour earlier this year.

So, what is “That’s Why I Love You” about?

What Do Victoria Monét & Bruno Mars’ “That’s Why I Love You” Lyrics Mean?

“That’s Why I Love You” is a devoted love song about finding someone you want to stay with for the long haul.

Victoria opens the song by singing about finally letting her guard down after finding a partner she can trust. The chorus then looks far into the future, imagining the couple staying together even after the venues close, the lights come on and they grow old.

Bruno takes over for the second verse, comparing their romance to a movie and describing his partner as its star. He also makes it clear that he does not want the relationship, or the feeling it gives him, to end.

The pair come together on the chorus, with the song ultimately presenting lasting love as finding someone who will still be beside you when everyone else has gone home.

“‘Til we’re silver and old, you’d never let me dance alone / And baby, that’s why I love you,” they sing together.

“That’s Why I Love You” Features an Italian Sample

The track opens with a sample of Italian singer-songwriter Bruno Lauzi‘s “Ritornerai.”

The song was originally released in 1963, and its title translates to “You’ll Come Back.” The Italian lyrics roughly translate to: “You’ll come back / I know, you’ll come back / And when you do, you’ll be with me / And you’ll discover that nothing has changed / That I’m still the same hopeless dreamer as always.”

That choice fits the old-school romantic tone of “That’s Why I Love You,” while giving the song a vintage introduction before Victoria begins the first verse.

The new collaboration was produced by Camper and D’Mile.

“That’s Why I Love You” appears as Track 14 on Frequency of Love, Victoria‘s 22-track sophomore album. The project also includes collaborations with SZA, Leon Thomas, Bryson Tiller, Lucky Daye, Chlöe and her daughter Hazel Monét.
