Wynonna Judd Reveals She & Sister Ashley Judd Are ‘Taking a Break’ From Their Relationship

Wynonna Judd is opening up about where she currently stands with her younger sister Ashley Judd.

The 62-year-old country singer revealed that she and the 58-year-old actress are currently “taking a break” from their relationship, though she made it clear that there wasn’t one specific falling out between them.

Wynonna shared the update while promoting her upcoming album The Hard Truth, which arrives on Friday (October 2).

“We’re taking a break, which all families can relate to,” Wynonna told People. “She’s doing her thing, and I’m doing mine.”

While the sisters aren’t particularly close at the moment, Wynonna said there wasn’t a specific incident that caused the distance between them.

“She just travels a lot. She’s always gone,” she explained. “It’s nothing specific.”

Wynonna also said she “absolutely” believes that she and Ashley will reconnect in the future.

The singer revealed that Ashley hasn’t heard her new album yet, explaining that they aren’t currently “connected.”

Wynonna Previously Said She & Ashley Weren’t as Close as She’d Like

The update comes after Wynonna spoke about their relationship in May 2025, admitting at the time that she didn’t see Ashley very often.

“Ashley‘s doing well. I don’t see her very much, and we’re not as close as I’d like to be, but that’s because success took us away from each other,” she said during an appearance on Clint Black‘s Talking in Circles.

Their relationship has shifted over the years. Following the death of their mother Naomi Judd in April 2022, Wynonna said the shared loss had brought the sisters closer together.

“We’re so united right now. I think more so than we have been in a long time,” she said several months after their mom’s death.

Wynonna has also previously explained that she took on significant responsibility for Ashley when they were growing up with their single mother, which contributed to the complicated dynamic they have as adults.

Despite their current distance, Wynonna‘s latest comments make clear that she doesn’t view the break as permanent.

The Hard Truth, her first album in more than a decade, will be released on October 2.
