Chadwick Boseman‘s wife isn’t staying quiet as her late husband’s brothers try to push her out as administrator of his estate. Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman filed new court documents opposing Derrick and Kevin Boseman’s petition to remove her, insisting she’s been far more generous with the family than they’ve publicly let on.
According to TMZ, Simone claims she’s paid Chadwick’s parents, Carolyn and Leroy Boseman, more than $1.7 million since 2022. She detailed the breakdown, including $1.5 million sent in May 2023, another $260,000 later that year, and over $4,000 in December 2024. She also revealed she voluntarily gave Derrick’s children $300,000 out of her own personal funds, further pushing back on the narrative that she’s been withholding money from the family.
Simone maintains that everything she’s done with the estate reflects what Chadwick would have wanted. As BOSSIP previously reported, Derrick and Kevin filed a petition back in July accusing Simone of exercising “complete control” over the estate without input from their parents, who they say are entitled to 25% under California law since Chadwick died without a will just six days after marrying Simone in 2020.
The brothers’ petition raised a long list of concerns, alleging unaccounted SAG-AFTRA residual payments, unclaimed property that was never properly distributed, and claims that Simone has continued to profit from Chadwick’s image and likeness while blocking the family from pursuing business opportunities of their own. They asked the court to appoint an outside forensic accountant to take over administration of the estate entirely.
Chadwick Boseman’s Wife Says Brothers Want To Give Input For Upcoming Documentary
The tension between Chadwick Boseman’s wife and his brothers hasn’t stopped at finances either. According to a separate TMZ report, Simone revealed she’s been working with production company Words + Pictures on a documentary celebrating Chadwick’s life and is in the process of securing a deal with Searchlight Pictures. She said the agreement was structured on a “Most Favored Nation basis,” meaning both sides of the family were sent identical paperwork to ensure equal treatment.
Simone claims Chadwick’s family requested separate agreements instead, something she characterized as just another example of her own generosity toward them, especially since she retained full rights to control and benefit from Chadwick’s name, image, voice, signature and likeness. She stated that she has “tried to consult with Chadwick’s family at all times with respect to activities she has undertaken to honor Chadwick’s legacy,” but alleged the family hasn’t extended her the same courtesy in return.
Simone has consistently denied the brothers’ claims of a lack of transparency, arguing that she’s actually provided the family with more financial support than she was legally required to. Given the scale of the payments she’s now disclosed in court filings, it’s clear she’s trying to counter the perception that she’s been uncooperative or secretive about the estate’s finances.
As you may recall, Chadwick died in August 2020 following a private four-year battle with colon cancer, and in the years since, his massive cultural legacy, from his Marvel stardom to his other acclaimed film roles, has only continued to grow. With both sides now laying out competing versions of events in court, it will ultimately be up to a judge to decide whether Simone remains in control of the estate moving forward.
