Why is Whoopi Goldberg missing from The View?
The 70-year-old entertainer revealed that she is taking some time away from the daytime talk show to film her upcoming Netflix movie Women Like Us.
However, Whoopi won’t be completely absent from the show during that time.
Whoopi confirmed her upcoming schedule while appearing on The View‘s Behind the Table podcast with executive producer Brian Teta.
“You’re going to be gone over the next two weeks, but you’ll be here on Mondays,” Brian told her, according to Entertainment Weekly.
What is Whoopi Goldberg filming during her absence?
Whoopi explained that she’ll be busy filming Women Like Us, which is shooting nearby in New York.
We previously reported that Whoopi will star in the Netflix comedy alongside Vivica A. Fox, Vanessa Williams and Jenifer Lewis.
The movie follows a recently widowed woman who is taken to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister on what would have been her 30th wedding anniversary.
Michelle Obama is serving as an executive producer through Higher Ground, the production company she shares with Barack Obama.
Who will fill in for Whoopi Goldberg on The View?
While Whoopi is away from the Hot Topics table, Joy Behar is expected to serve as moderator. Four former The View co-hosts will also return over the next two weeks: Lisa Ling, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd and Debbie Matenopoulos, per EW.
The temporary absence comes shortly after The View kicked off Season 30 earlier this month. Whoopi, Joy, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro all returned as co-hosts for the new season.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
