Prince William & Prince Harry's Relationship Reportedly Becomes a 'Very, Very Cold War' Amid Harry's UK Return | Just Jared

Prince William and Prince Harry reportedly remain estranged despite Harry‘s return to the United Kingdom.

Royal historian Amanda Foreman chatted with People for this week’s cover story and shared some insight into the brothers’ relationship, saying things have progressed from being “a hot war” to a “very, very cold war.”

Despite Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle moving back to the U.K. and his apparent desire to reconcile with the royal family, he and his brother Prince William have reportedly not had any direct contact.

“It was very hard on them, and I wouldn’t blame William for being cautious,” a source said.

The source claims William has no present interest to restore their personal relationship or a professional royal partnership. Kate Middleton reportedly supports her husband’s cautious approach.

Harry, Meghan, and their children recently returned to the U.K. for an extended period. But according to the report, the move back has magnified the distance between the brothers rather than helping them move toward improving the relationship.

The Duke of Sussex has allegedly made more progress with King Charles, as they recently reunited and have continued communication since. But the progress with the King has not translated into progress with William.

Harry, Meghan, and their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, visited with Charles in July during their initial visit to the U.K. before the move. Harry has also spoken to Charles at least once since his return to the U.K.

Charles previously addressed whether Harry and Meghan will return to official royal duties.

The brothers’ relationship has been strained for several years following Harry and Meghan‘s departure from senior royal duties and subsequent public disclosures.

“William’s view is clear — any relationship his father has with Harry or the Sussexes as a family is entirely up to him,” says Russell Myers, author of William and Catherine (via People). “But looking toward the future, he will have no relationship with them, in a working or private capacity whatsoever.”
